Hi Everyone,
This has been a quieter week, as I don't have any book signings lined up until Saturday, Oct. 28 at Mosaic Books in Kelowna. I’ve still been busy, though. Over the past couple of days, I’ve put together donation baskets for two upcoming silent auction fundraisers. That was a lot of fun. The second basket looked much better than the first. The first one is for the Salmon Arm Rotary Club’s auction, as I mentioned in a previous post. James Smith was kind enough to pick up the basket. The second basket is for a fundraiser in Ft. St. John, being put on by E3 Studio to help a cancer patient in their community, Jim Peever. I’m not familiar with E3 Studio and don’t know Jim, but I believe we’re all responsible for helping each other whenever we can – so I’m glad to contribute. I hope the auctions raise lots of money, and that the Dragon Basket winners enjoy them! That's all for today. 😊 Lorna

Hi, everyone!
I’m losing track of what day of the week it is – let alone where we've gotten to in the month. It's now Saturday, October 21, but let me see…where did l leave off with my last entry? Hmmm... Oh, yeah! So, it's now Saturday. And on Wednesday morning, I was on a Kamloops radio station – 98.3 CIFM – with the delightful Stan and Henry. What charming, fun guys. I was even invited back, so I must have behaved myself. The next day I did the Shuswap Women-in-Business Trade Show; that was a lot of fun. Then, on Friday, I appeared on the local TV station, CFJC – on their midday show with the dazzling Susan Edgell. She conducts a great interview. You can check it out here: http://cfjctoday.com/video/592759/cfjc-midday-author-lorna-carleton That same evening, I joined Magge Davidson from Spirit Quest Books at her booth at the Interior Wellness Festival, where we enjoyed a fine evening. Today (Saturday) I spent a couple hours at the local Chapters/Indigo bookstore doing another book signing. I'll include a photo of my display, down below. I had to bring in a fresh load of books from the car when the store sold out all their copies! What a great feeling! While signing books, I had a chance to chat with people. That was a treat in itself, and to make it even better, I received quite a few nice compliments on my radio and TV interviews. My next scheduled book signing is at the lovely Mosaic Books in Kelowna, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 28. I’ve got two more signings scheduled after that: Saturday, November 11, at the Chapters/Indigo store in Kelowna, and on Saturday, November 18 at Books & Company in Prince George. I’m sure there will be even more, but that’s the lineup at the moment. These things just keep coming. A whirlwind, just like I said! The Salmon Arm Rotary Club has a big annual fundraiser coming up on November 4th, 5:30 to 9:00 pm at the Prestige Inn (yes, in Salmon Arm). I've donated a basket of my books and some dinosaur/dragon goodies for their popular silent auction. If you’re in the area, go on down and have fun at the auction. (And bid on my basket, of course!) They’ve got some other fabulous items on the auction block, too. Like a waterway houseboat vacation package, a golf package, some intriguing ethnic dinners and even some guided outdoor getaways. All bid donations benefit an array of very worthy charities, so it will be a big win-win for everyone. I am thoroughly enjoying the whirlwind of activity Celine and her friends continue to conjure up for me. I’m so glad you’re following along – and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your support! Bye for now, Lorna Hi again, everyone! Such a busy week – and there's more to come! Yesterday I had a great time tending my table at the Shuswap Women in Business Trade Show in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, in the very pleasant company of quite a few enthusiastic women. I didn't get a chance to visit many of the other displays, but those I did see surely impressed me with their professionalism and product quality. A good-sized crowd came to see what the local women have to offer the community; it was so good to see such support. I hope all the entrepreneurs present enjoyed a successful evening. Back at my own display, I had lots of fun talking with visitors about Celine and her friends, and their adventures in The Dragons of Nibiru. Everyone who stopped by was interested to learn about the series; it was invigorating to receive so much support from people I’d never even met! Many bought signed copies, too. I also gave away free copies of my book of poetry, The Real Vancouver: View from a Cheap Hotel. A dear friend told me I needed to dig out my stored copies and start promoting it; so I did! For some reason, she likes it. I’d put together a basket of organic foods and put it up on display at the booth, inviting people to leave their names for a give-away drawing. I haven’t done the drawing yet, but I’ll do that soon and post the winner. Today at 12:45 I'm to appear on the local TV station, CFJC. My first-ever TV appearance. I think I’m more nervous about how my hair will look than about the interview itself. I’m well known for my ability to gab! Nevertheless, I’m nervous. The show will be over by the time you read this, but I’ll post about it soon. This evening there's another book signing, this time at the Interior Wellness Festival in the local Sahali Mall concourse. I’ll be alongside Maggy Davidson, owner of Spirit Quest Books. Tomorrow from 1:00 to 3:00 is a book signing back home in Kamloops, at the Chapters/Indigo store. So, it’s been a busy week indeed. Hard to believe my first signing was only a week ago, with Jamie and Sydni at the Books & Company in Quesnel. And so many more to come – amazing. That's all for the moment. Have a great day, everyone! Lorna A few days ago, I booked a truck rental for an exciting little project: taking delivery of 2000 newly printed copies of The Dragons of Nibiru. The pick-up trip was scheduled for Tuesday. Then, on Monday, I heard some travel advisory warnings telling people not to use the highways on Tuesday. Great! Well, the truck was booked, so I just decided the weather man didn’t know what he was talking about. I was wrong. He did know. I hit the road Tuesday, right on schedule, and soon ran right into the strongest winds I’ve ever experienced. Torrential rains, too. All while driving a big moving truck. It was an experience and a half! But, now that it’s over and all 2000 books are neatly stored in my hallway at home, I’m proud that I made the five-hour drive unscathed. The truck made it safely through, too! After picking up the books – hot off the presses at Kettle Valley Graphics in Kelowna – I dropped some off at the Kelowna Chapters/Indigo bookstore for my November 11 book signing there. Wow! What a nice store. I've also got to drop off more books at the Chapters store here in Kamloops. They asked me to be sure to bring them some more, so there'll be plenty on hand when I do a book signing there this coming Saturday. Cool! Next on the schedule (it will have happened by the time you read this) is an 8:45 am visit to Henry and Stan at radio station CIFM, to chat about what inspired me to write The Dragons of Nibiru. Then, on Thursday, I’ll be tending my table at the Shuswap Business Women’s Trade Show in Salmon Arm. I’m really looking forward to that, as there are a bunch of great people in that community. To round off this great week, I’ll be visiting CFJC TV in Kamloops their Noon News program on Friday. Then it’s on to that Saturday book signing at the local Chapters/Indigo. Busy, busy! Later, Lorna Hi All,
Today was a great day for book signing at the Quesnel Books & Company location. Jamie and Sydni, were wonderful and helped to make the day a great success. I met an aspiring young writer, Riley Wyssen, and a great artist, Shaylin. I am looking forward to seeing their work in the future. Riley has a good story she is working on and Shaylin has a portfolio of some great drawings that would look fabulous in a book of fairies. It was fun to see how many people wanted to just hang around me to chat or to show me what they have written or drawn, and asked me to help them with their writing. I was even given several hugs by people who bought my book as they enjoyed meeting me so much! I am thoroughly looking forward to my next book signing in this great little cafe and book store. They have many wonderful books and other things that would make excellent Christmas gifts! One of my memorable moments from the day was when I was fueling up for gas before the book signing, a man approached me. He asked about the magnet on my car and I told him I was doing a book signing and suggested for him to come over to the store. He did, and we started talking. I found out that he is a plumber but he said he's too old to do it anymore. It turns out that he does a little carving, so I mentioned to him that I needed a wooden wand and asked if he could make me one. He brightened up at the idea! 10/14/2017 The second book signing went very well. My name was recognized in the paper by someone I haven't seen since 1972 and she came out to meet me. It was great seeing her again and reconnecting. I can hardly wait to visit her more. We went for coffee after the signing to catch-up. Even not seeing her since she was a child, I knew who it was once I saw her. Kind of cool. The thing that stood out to me today was that after the book signing, I stopped into Timmy's to get a steeped tea and the girl at the counter thought she knew me. When I told her I was in town to do the book signing, she said that she recognized me from all the posters and newspaper articles about me. Starting to know how celebrities feel. Hi All,
Has it ever been a whirlwind since I picked up the first printed copy of The Dragons of Nibiru on July 13! The next day I headed out on a four-week road trip down to the US to promote my book, visit old friends and meet new ones. Now it’s October and my book is already in several stores in BC, and will be in others in the next couple of weeks. I will be making some more road trips to the US soon, to get the books into stores there, too. More news: I have several book signings and readings lined up for October in Canada. It is so exciting! I have been having such a blast! My book is well received wherever I go. Once, a person even approached me while I was fueling up my car, asking about the magnetic sign on my car. I’d had a magnetised sign made to promote the book, so I’m promoting every time I go out! (I'll include a photo down below.) That sort of thing is happening to me regularly. The other day, I visited the table a local theatre group had set up in a mall; I walked away with one of their pamphlets, and the lady behind the table went home with a copy of my book. My first reading/signing date is October 14, at 1:00 pm at Spirit Quest Books in Salmon Arm, BC. Then, on Wednesday, October 18, I’ll be on radio station 98.3, CIFM (here in Kamloops, BC) to talk about what inspired a person of my age to write a book. The following day, back in Salmon Arm, I’ll have a table at the Shuswap Business Women’s Trade Show. Then, on October 20, I’ll be on Kamloops TV station CFJC for their mid-day show, talking once again about what inspired me to write the book. Thennnnnnnnn, on Saturday, October 21, I’ll be doing a book signing at the Kamloops Chapters/Indigo bookstore. The Saturday after that (October 28), it’s another book signing, this time at the lovely Mosaic Book Store in Kelowna, BC. Whew! I’m tired just writing this, let alone doing all that driving around. I’ve also been doing a good bit of driving to deliver books to stores around the province who’ve requested them. I meant to do a blog about my July trip to the US. That didn’t work out at the time, but I guess it’s still not too late. I’ll post that shortly, so come back and check it out! October 14, 2017: News Update!
